Charles (Charlie) Nelson Davis, Sr., 83 of St. Augustine, Florida died on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Broward County Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was born in Miami, Florida on June 26, 1928 to the late John and Emily Crane Davis and grew up in Dixie, Georgia. Charlie spent most of his working life in the banking industry, working in banks in Valdosta, Georgia and Jasper, Safety Harbor, and Lakeland, Florida. He rose to the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Imperial Bank of Polk County Florida which merged with First Union. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a lifelong Methodist.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Connell Davis of St. Augustine, Florida; his son, Charles Davis, Jr.; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Joel Zwemer and 3 grandchildren.
A graveside service for Charles Davis, Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
