Charles Brown Phillips, 80, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Born January 7, 1927 in Eclectic, AL, he was the son of the late Charles Wesley and Nell Brown Phillips. Mr. Phillips graduated from Elmore County High School in 1944. He was a United States Navy veteran having served from 1945 to 1946 and then from 1950 to 1952. He was a graduate of Valdosta State University and Auburn University. Mr. Phillips was a District Representative for GMAC and retired from the company. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and served as church administrator.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilynn Crowder Phillips of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and James Mashburn of Kennesaw; son, Michael Phillips of Valdosta; grandchildren, Justin Phillips of Stafford, TX, Matthew Phillips of Duncanville, TX, Emily and Christopher Mashburn of Kennesaw; sister-in-law, Sara Phillips of Montgomery, AL; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas L. and Kathy Crowder of Albany. He was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Phillips, and brothers, James Phillips and Harry Phillips.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2007 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend V. L. Daugherty and Reverend Craig Rikard officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
