Charles Anderson Wetherington, Sr. was born on September 2, 1928, in Homerville, Georgia, to his beloved parents Clint and Vera Wetherington. He passed from this life to his eternal heavenly home on October 9, 2016. Anyone fortunate enough to know Charles knew well his life purpose and passion. Every prayer he prayed included, "Help us, Lord, to do your will, Father..." He sought to do the will of his Heavenly Father in service to the Church, his family, his country and in the workplace. Charles enlisted in the Army Air Corp on his 18th birthday and proudly served in the Military Police both stateside and abroad. Soon after returning to civilian life he joined Langdale Forest Products where he enjoyed a distinguished career spanning some 50 years. Charles met and married the love of his life, Christine Harp Wetherington, in 1951. Together they raised 4 children, Angela, Teresa, Sherea and the late Charles, Jr., who have followed their parents' lead in purposeful passionate service to God, Family and Country. The Wetherington's recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Charles received Christ as his Lord and Savior in the early 1950's, then joined the Church of God where he embraced the call to servant leadership for more than 6 decades. In 2004 at San Antonio's Biannual Assembly of the Church of God, Charles was inducted into the Hall of Christian Excellence. The late Charles A. Wetherington, Jr., once said to his Dad, "Daddy, you are the picture of stability...the same wife and house for more than 60 years, the same company for 50 years and the same church for 60 years!" Charles Wetherington also knew how to have fun, both playing and coaching softball well into his 60's. He also loved cheering his Valdosta Wildcats to victory, whether from the stands or in front of the radio. And Charles knew everything there was to know about cowboy western cinema. Charles is survived by his wife Christine, daughters Angela Wetherington Stutz, Teresa Wetherington Hamm, Sherea Wetheringon Bates, 2 sons-in-law, Tim Hamm and Paul Bates, 1 daughter in law, Robin Wetherington Deaver, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Remer and Roy, numerous nephews and nieces, plus 6 sisters-in-law, Betty Ruth Butler, Dorothy Harp, Barbara Pierce, Maxine Wetherington, Brenda Wetherington, Hazel Wetherington. He was preceded in death by baby daughter Alesia Charlene and son Charles Jr., son-in-law Darrell Stutz, his parents, sister, Evelyn, brothers, M.C. and Ronald, nephew Ronnie, in-laws Carl and Annie Harp, Sharon Suggs, Frances Todd, Buddy Harp, Franklin Butler and Billy Pierce. Charles's oldest grandchild, Kristen, summed it up best recently when she said, "Granddaddy, we love you and are so very proud of you!"
