Charles A. (Charlie) Wetherington, Jr., 46, of Valdosta, died suddenly on Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Smith Northview Hospital. Born in Valdosta on October 28, 1963 he was a lifelong resident of Valdosta and a member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon. He was a United Way Sponsor, member of and Board of Director of the Valdosta Touchdown Club, served as Heart Association Chairman, participant in Leadership Lowndes 2008, and served on the Community Task Force on Violence. Charlie was active with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Valdosta Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Association. He was also on the Board of Directors of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
Survivors are his wife, Robin Warren Wetherington and daughter, Chesley of Valdosta; his parents, Charles and Christine Wetherington of Valdosta; sisters and brothers in law, Angela Stutz of Cincinnati, Ohio, Teresa and Tim Hamm of Mayo, Florida, Sherea and Paul Bates of Dahlonega; nieces and nephews, Kristen Stutz of Cincinnati, Ohio, Taran and Kyle Nelson of Valdosta, Darah Stutz of Cleveland, Tennessee, Clinton and Elizabeth Hamm of Nashville, Tennessee, Samantha Bates of Dahlonega, Meredith Stutz of Cincinnati, Ohio, Madison Bates, Sydney Bates of Dahlonega; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Charlie was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Wetherington, brother in law, Darrell Stutz, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Wetherington, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Harp, Sr., and his beloved dog, Sebastian.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Perimeter Road Baptist Church. Pastor Jimmy Baughcum, Reverend Wayne Hughes and Reverend Tim Hamm will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a fund for education for Chesley Wetherington, First State Bank, Attn: Will Kemp, P.O.
