Charlene Montgomery

Charlene Montgomery, 81, of Valdosta, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. She was born on June 15, 1943 in Murphy, NC to the late Charles S. Parker and Laura Wells Parker. She grew up in North Carolina and loved her Great Smokey mountains, her beloved dog “BettyJo”, going on cruises and traveling with her husband, and was very invested in family genealogy. She spent over 30 years researching her family history. She also worked with her husband as a tax preparer at her husband’s tax business for over 30 years. 

Mrs. Montgomery is survived by her husband, Gene Montgomery, of Valdosta, daughter Melanie Johnson (Chris), of Tampa, FL, son Emory Stewart, Jr. (Sandra) of Belton, TX; her grandchildren, Macy Godwin, of Valdosta, Marcus Godwin, of Morven, Savannah Smith (Zach), of Jasper, GA, Jennifer Stewart, of Jasper, GA, Wendolee Ayala (Todd), of Belton, TX, Christopher Johnson, Jr. (Sara), of Valdosta, Bradley Johnson (fiancée Hannah Worth), of Jacksonville, FL, Alex Johnson, of Valdosta, Allison Tucker (Cody), of Tifton, GA; her brother, Edwin Parker (Barbara), of West Virginia; and sister, Victoria Kephart (Dewain), of Murphy, NC; special friends Lee and Linda Scott; eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

The family gives a special thank you to the staff at Langdale Hospice House for their care of Mrs. Montgomery. 

A graveside service will be held at 11am, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
