Chance Edward Black, 56, of Fleming Island, FL, died on Monday, October 14, 2024, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born in Valdosta on August 29, 1968, he grew up here and graduated from Lowndes High School in 1987. At Lowndes, he played football and basketball for the Vikings. After graduating from high school, he went on to play basketball for ABAC in Tifton and attended classes at VSU. He then started working for his father at Bruce Black Construction and worked there for several years. Chance moved briefly to Jacksonville and then Richmond Hill for almost a decade before returning to Valdosta. He then moved to Jacksonville again last year. Chance loved spending time with family, especially watching his boys play for their teams and spending time with his friends. He was always the life of the party! He continued to be a fan of the Lowndes Vikings, but also the Miami Hurricanes and the Seattle Seahawks.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Killgore Black of Hahira; two sons and a daughter in law, Jordan & Rachel Black of Jennings, FL and Samuel Caden Black of Hahira; his mother Alacia Rowan Black of Lake Park; his sister, Dana Rowland of Hahira; and his brother Ferran (& Brandy Henderson) Black of Statenville. Also surviving is his brother in law, Jim (& Melissa) Killgore of Hahira; three grandchildren, Camille Black, Maylee Scaff and Brylee Scaff, nephews and a niece, Mason Rowland, James Rowland, Jud Killgore and Mackensie Killgore; and numerous cousins and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his father, Bruce Edward Black and a brother, Eric Edward Black.
The funeral for Chance will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 19, 2024, in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Deacon David Lasseter and Pastor Tommy Bussey will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 4 until 6 pm. The family is honored that Chance will live on through organ donation and donations to organ donation causes or flowers for the service will be appreciated.
