Celina B. DeVane, 92, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Lakehaven Nursing Home.
She was born February 6, 1918 in Coban, Guatemala, a daughter of the late Carlos and Margaret Arenales Bianchi. She grew up in Guatemala where she met her husband, Audley Wayne DeVane, a civil servant. Following their marriage they moved to Quitman. Mr. DeVane died in 1973 and Mrs. DeVane moved to Valdosta in 1979.
She was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.
Mrs. DeVane is survived by her three children, Charles DeVane and wife Linda of Quitman, Margaret Norton and husband Ken of Kingsland, and Michael (Mike) DeVane and wife Ann-Elizabeth of Savannah; eleven grandchildren; over a dozen great-grandchildren; three sisters in Guatemala; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Dicky DeVane, and four siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. DeVane at 12:10 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman. A Rosary Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 Gornto Road, Valdosta, GA 31602.
