Cecil E. "Dub" Dubberly, Sr.

Cecil E. (Dub) Dubberly, Sr., 92, of Valdosta, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law.

A native of Appling County, Georgia, Mr. Dubberly was born September 8, 1921, a son of the late Clyde Eston and Ola Estelle McNeal Dubberly. Dub graduated from Surrency High School with the Class of 1941. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a Field Telephone Man in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal, August 1942 to January 1943; Cape Gloucester, New Britain, December 1943 to April 1944; and Peleliu Island, Palau Islands, September 1944 to October 1944. Following his service, he began his career with Bell South Telephone serving in various capacities which included Labor Representative for The C.W.A. retiring as a Communications Engineer, after thirty-eight years of service. He attended Northside Baptist Church, and was a sixty-one year member of Azalea Masonic Lodge #716.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Cindy Dubberly, Jr. of Valdosta; one daughter, Cheryl Dubberly of Okinawa, Japan; two grandsons, Daniel Dubberly and Richard Dubberly, both of Albany; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Clarice Swinson of Chapin, NC, Doris and Don Dugger of Richmond Hill, Frances and Linton McGlohon of Savannah, Pat and Wally Moody of Jesup, and Louise Johnson of Baxley; four brothers and four sisters-in-law, Bud and Beth Dubberly of Prince George, VA, Frank and Elva Jean Dubberly of Savannah, Joe and Jo Ann Dubberly of Baxley, and Rev. Paul and Donna Dubberly of Baxley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Addie H. Dubberly; and two brothers, Claude and Leroy "Red" Dubberly.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Dubberly will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis and Rev. Paul Dubberly officiating. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
