Cecil Curtis Daniel, 93, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Fellowship Home Brookside. Born on April 5, 1928, in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Robert Kirt Daniel II and Flossie Barzilla Hobby Daniel. Mr. Daniel graduated from Waycross High School in 1946, and went to work with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He worked on the railroad for several years before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his military service he returned to the railroad, and worked until his retirement from Seaboard Coastline Railroad (which would become CSX) in the mid 1980’s. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and more recently was an active bingo player at Fellowship Home. Before his health declined, Mr. Daniel attended Sweat Memorial Baptist Church and Brooks United Methodist Church in Waycross.
Preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Tomberlin Daniel, and a brother, Robert (Bobby) Kirt Daniel, Jr., Mr. Daniel is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Wendy Hart of Lake Park; his grandson, Thomas Hart and his husband, Chance Smith of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Hayden Hart and Laila Hart of Tallahassee, Florida, and a grand dog, Dakota.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Freddie Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
