Catherine Colson Corbett

Mrs. Catherine Colson Corbett, 96, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at her home. Catherine was born May 19, 1927, in Tifton, Georgia, to the late Henry Cagle and Lucille Hancock Cagle. Catherine moved to Valdosta at an early age with her family. She graduated high school at 16 years old. In 1946 she met and married Kenneth C. (Bill) Colson Sr; to this union seven children were born. Catherine was an active and faithful member of Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta until her health began to fail. Catherine loved music and had played piano since she was a small child. She enjoyed playing piano for the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Northside Baptist Church. What a precious and Spirit filled lady! Catherine was a light wherever she went. She will always be remembered for her cooking and caring for her family and friends, always with a smile, and always with room for one more at her table! All were welcome and treated as family with genuine southern hospitality. Catherine lived a very active life, a life to be celebrated and she will be missed by all who knew her. And if you ever met Catherine she would share Proverbs 3:5-6.

Catherine is survived by her children, Lyndal Sims (Brad), Ken Colson (Pat), Susan Allen (Bill), David Colson (Shannon) and daughter-in-law, Pat Colson; stepson, Ray Corbett (Mary); sister, Mona Faye Roberts; grandchildren, Jeremy Colson (Sarah), Dr. Heather Colson Hardy (Geoff), Matthew Colson (Kasey), Kelly Lupton (Keith), Catherine McGahee (Jared), Michelle McGreevey (Michael), Troy Allen (Ana Maria), Elizabeth Dubow (Will), John David Allen, J.D. Colson, Christy Rucker (Robin), and 17 plus great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Calvin Colson. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lucille Cagle, husbands, Kenneth (Bill) Colson Sr. and Ray Corbett Sr., sons, Jim Colson, Ashley Colson, and Ricky Colson, brothers, Ronald Cagle, James Cagle, and Melvin Cagle, sister, Vonnie Gilmore Geiger, brother-in-law, G.W. Colson, sister-in-law, Myrtice Colson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Colson Corbett will be held Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 5 p.m.–7p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Northside Baptist Church or to Langdale Hospice House.
