Catharine Minor Simmons, 68 of Valdosta, Georgia passed away peacefully at The Orchard at Stone Creek on October 12, 2024, following many years of struggling with frontotemporal dementia. Born on June 28, 1956, Catharine loved her community, was cherished for her roles as a loving mother, devoted wife, and caring friend.
Catharine graduated from Lowndes High School and Valdosta State College (VSC). While attending VSC she met her future husband and soulmate. At VSC she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she held several leadership roles, including president. After graduation she dedicated many years of service to the local community as a legal secretary, Lake Park Elementary School and to the Lowndes County Board of Education, where her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering support left a lasting impact. She was referred to by her peers at the Board of Education as "Cay.com".
Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life. Catharine was a faithful member of Park Avenue Church, where she volunteered regularly, contributing to many church activities. The nursery and vacation bible school were her favorites. Her devotion was also evident in her leisure activities; she loved all animals but especially her horses. Catharine's family was the center of her world.
The family is deeply appreciative for the excellent personal care provided by The Orchard and the staff of house one, Georgia Hospice, Peace at Home, and friends and family that for many years have attended to the personal needs of Catharine. Your services will be remembered and never forgotten.
Catharine is survived by her husband, Byrd Simmons of Valdosta; her children, Chad (Brandi) Simmons of Pensacola, Florida and Sara (Chase) Patrick of Quitman, Georgia; her brother, Randy (Lynn) Minor of Valdosta; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Henry W. and Catharine M. Minor, and her brother, Hank Minor.
Catharine Minor Simmons' life will be honored and remembered at the Park Avenue Church on October 18, 2024, at 11am. The Rev. Jimmy Towson and Rev. Jamie Bone officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Park Avenue Church Building Fund, the Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta, or a favorite charity of your choosing in memory of Catharine. Her beautiful smile, legacy of kindness, dedication, and community service will continue to inspire all those who knew her.
