Catharine McKinnon Minor, 96, of Valdosta, Georgia, died at her son’s home on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. Catharine was born February 17, 1923, in Geneva, Alabama, the daughter of the late Luther Gillis and Wille Lee McKinnon. She attended Montreat College, Montreat, North Carolina, and graduated from Florida State University. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a faithful volunteer with Break Bread Together.
Catharine is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Henry W. Minor, Jr., her son, Henry (Hank) W. Minor, III, her sisters, Marylee (Douglas) Owens and Annie Ruth Mahoffey; four brothers, Henry L., Ralph, Joel, and Gillis McKinnon.
Survivors include a daughter, Cay (Byrd) Simmons of Valdosta, and son, Randy (Lynn) Minor of Valdosta, sister, Jeanette (Harbert) Smith of Tallahassee Florida; her grandchildren, Stacy (Rob) Evans of Valdosta, Chad (Brandie) Simmons of Pensacola, Florida, Lindsay (Grant) Groher of Westport, Connecticut, Sara Simmons of Thomasville, and Cady (Carter) Karras of Birmingham, Alabama; great grandchildren, Kate, Hank, and Robbie Evans of Valdosta, Weston and Anna Claire Groher of Westport, Connecticut; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at eleven a.m. at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Dr. Glenda Hollingshead will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Catharine to Break Bread Together, First Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 1094 Valdosta GA 31603 or to the charity of your choice.
