Carolyn Turner, 77 of Valdosta, transitioned unexpectedly, on Friday, June 7th, 2024, at the Holly Hill Nursing Home, where she had gone, temporarily, to rebuild her strength after a short hospital stay. Mrs. Turner spent many years of her life dedicated to the food service industry,17 of those years she worked for the military, ensuring our soldiers were fed; she then worked for the Department of Corrections for another 7 years. As her final act before retiring, she graciously opened her home to adults with special needs and later to foster children. As a woman of strength and resilience, Carolyn always rose above any challenges she was faced with in life.
She leaves behind her son, W. Douglas Turner of San Diego, CA; brother, George Copeland and Tereatha of Valdosta, GA; brother John L. Copeland and Theola of Nashville, TN; brother, Jeffery Crawford of Smyrna, TN, and a host of other relatives, friends, acquaintances, and honorary grandchildren whom she loved deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie Copeland; her husband, Clarence Turner, Jr.; her older sister, Gloristine; her older brother, Burnett; and her younger sister, Helen.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Turner at 11 A.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2024 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
