Carolyn Steptoe Jones, 67, of Quitman, died on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at South Georgia Medical Center from a sudden illness. Born on November 3, 1940, in Soperton, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Luke and Bessie Steptoe. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker, who loved her grandchildren and loved needlework such as embroidery and crosstitch. She attended Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors are her daughters and sons in law, Elaine and Marshall Lanier of Millen, Teresa and John Newton of Quitman; grandchildren, LCPL Adam Lanier, of the Marines and Washington, DC., Justin Lanier of Millen, Joshua Newton and Wesley Newton of Quitman; brother, Cleveland Steptoe, Jr. of Millen, brother in law and his spouse, Carlton and Barbara Jones of Swainsboro, sisters in law and their spouses, Sara and Randy Moore of Wadley, Peggy and Billy Dailey of Stillmore; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Magnolia Room Chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Elder Dwight Marshall and Elder Lynwood Davis will officiate.
