Carolyn Gray Ferguson, 82, of Quitman died on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Valdosta on August 27, 1931 to the late William Armon Rabon and Reba Jacobs Rabon Hicks. Mrs. Ferguson lived life to the fullest and was a Christian by faith, a proud American, a loving homemaker, and writer. She was a proud and dedicated military wife, who travelled willingly and graciously with her husband to each new assignment, and was involved with military community life. She was an active member and leader in the various NCO wives organizations. She whole-heartedly involved herself with support organizations that led to the betterment and well-being of the military community. Mrs. Ferguson was also a consummate mother who shared her love of travel, her impeccable hosting skills, and her sense of humor with her children as well as other family members and friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gayle Armond and Olguelia Ferguson of Austin, Texas, a son, Michael Roy Ferguson of Quitman, and a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn Wynn Frey and Allen Frey of Sumter, South Carolina; 4 grandchildren, Meredith Gray Ferguson of Charlotte, North Carolina, John Calvin Sergio Ferguson and Stephanie Marie Ferguson both of Austin, Texas and Kayla Renee Ferguson of Charlotte, North Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Lee Roy Ferguson; a brother, Otto Dickman, and two sisters, Undine Haddock and Betty Lancaster.
A graveside service for Carolyn Gray Ferguson will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
