Carol Wilkes Steed

January 10, 1960 — July 7, 2013

Carol Wilkes Steed, 53, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center, after a sudden illness.

She was born January 10, 1960, in Valdosta, a daughter of the late Wallace L. and Margaret L. Boland Wilkes. She attended Lowndes High School and was currently employed at the Valdosta Daily Times. Carol was of the Baptist faith, she loved her grandchildren, and enjoyed the outdoors, theme parks, music, traveling, going to beaches and to the mountains.

She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Maine and Aimy Carpenter of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Christopher James Maine, Aaron Michael Maine, Shakylah Marie Carpenter, and Braylon Wyatt Carpenter; special friend, Raymond Brantley; one sister, Sheryl Wilkes Rogers and husband Mike of Fargo; two brothers, Ronald Lloyd Wilkes of Blackshear, and Joseph Wade Wilkes of Ray City; her former husband, Tony James Maine of Echols County; two sister-in-laws, Sheila Wilkes of Valdosta, and Beth Wilkes of Blackshear; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Wilkes.

The Memorial Service for Ms. Steed will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Audrey Manac officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., prior to the memorial service. Condolences to the family may be conveyed at www.mclanecares.com.
