Carol Clary Herndon, 71, of Valdosta, ‘walked on’ January 10, 2020. She is now free and dancing with the angels above. Carol was born in Valdosta on August 20, 1948 – daughter of the late Ellis and Myra Clary. She is a graduate of Valdosta High School, class of 1966 and Valdosta State University, class of 1970. While attending VSU, Carol met her future husband, Jack Herndon. They were married on August 14, 1971. She spent many years as a self-employed court reporter and retired in 2017. Carol was a passionate yogini and certified Yoga instructor. She loved the outdoors: exploring through her daylily garden, kayaking with friends on the rivers and waterways, and traveling near or far.
Survivors are Carol’s husband, Jack B. Herndon of Valdosta; her son, Jared Ashton Herndon of Atlanta; sisters and brother-in-law, Karen and Harold Cole of Fayetteville, Ellen Clary of Valdosta, Janis Clary of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service for Carol will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carson McLane Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Park Place, 108 W. Park Ave., Valdosta, GA, 31602. Reverend Galen Mirate will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Winn-Dixie Campus, 2121 SW 16th St, Gainesville, FL 32608-1417 or to Sons of Solomon in association with St. John AME Church, 800 West Magnolia St, Valdosta, GA 31601.
