Carmen Etteinne Davis Boatwright, 78, of Valdosta died on October 25, 2013 at the Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia on January 9, 1935 to the late Ralph Alexander and Etteinne McCranie Davis. Mrs. Boatwright attended Martha Berry School for Girls in high school and was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia with a degree in Home Economics and Nutrition. She was employed as a clinical dietician at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta until her marriage to Lt. Charles Adams Boatwright in 1957.
During her husband's career as an Air Force pilot, Mrs. Boatwright enjoyed living in Europe and throughout the United States. After her husband's retirement from the Air Force, she taught English Literature at Atkinson County High School. Upon her retirement they moved to Valdosta. In 2004, Mrs. Boatwright was instrumental in helping establish the St. Francis Ministry for Animals at Christ Episcopal Church in Valdosta. This ministry is devoted to the rescue and care of homeless and abandoned animals. She has been a life-long advocate of animal rights and animal rescue.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Charles Adams Boatwright of Valdosta, one daughter and son-in-law, Etteinne and Champion Mitchell of Newburn, North Carolina; one grandson, Morgan Benjamin Andreiev who is attending Ol' Miss; one niece, Denise Davis Straight of Willacoochee; one nephew, Donald O'Neal Davis, Jr. of Foley, Alabama, and her sister-in-law, Carole Sheffield Davis of Willacooche. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald O'Neal Davis, and her step-mother, Edith Parker Davis.
A memorial service for Carmen Etteinne Davis Boatwright will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rev. Joy Cantrell, The Rev. Tar Drazdowski, and The Rev. Deacon Patricia Marks officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service to celebrate her life and memory. The committal service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Monday following the service and celebration at the Willacoochee Cemetery in Willacoochee.
