Carl Ray Bennett

October 17, 1942 — June 20, 2005

Carl Ray Bennett, 62, of Valdosta, died on Monday, June 20, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Valdosta, Georgia on October 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Lemuel Lee and and Lovell Arnold Bennett. Mr. Bennett was Captain of the 1960 State Champions Valdosta Wildcat Football Team. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and attended Valdosta State University. A member of First United Methodist Church, he served as church Treasurer and was a member of the Thursday Morning Men’s Bible Study led by V. L. Daughtery. Mr. Bennett owned Imperial Finance Company for many years before he became a real estate broker with ReMax.

Survivors are his wife, Carol Bennett of Valdosta; children, Danny Bennett of Valdosta, Catherine Hutchinson Alvarado and her husband, Paul, of Valdosta, Leigh Hutchinson Jordan and her husband, Lake, of Atlanta, Caroline Hutchinson Dorminey and her husband, Charlie of Tifton; grandchildren, Cam Bennett and Anna Alvarado; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Gloria Bennett of Nicholson. He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Bennett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2005, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Sam Coker officiating. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
