Carl Mullis

March 25, 1924 — November 18, 2005

Carl Mullis, age 81, a life long resident of Valdosta died on Friday, November 18, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on March 25, 1924 in Tifton, he was the son of the late Daniel Lester Mullis and Annie Ruth Feagan Mullis. He was a Valdosta High School graduate and a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII having served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a leader in the St. Augustine, FL and Valdosta communities in many ways. He was past president of the Rotary Club in St. Augustine and past chairman of the Industrial Development Committee in St. Augustine. He was the president of the Gold Flame Club of retirees from Atlanta Gas Light. Mr. Mullis was also a Boy Scout Leader, a former member of Civil Defense and taught First Aid. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Masonic Lodge and the Valdosta Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of American Legion Post 13 and of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8. Mr. Mullis was a member of New Harvest United Methodist Church where he was chairman of trustees when the church was founded. He was a Sunday School teacher of many classes and a choir member who was very devoted to his church and loved it very much.

Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Juanita Johnson Mullis of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Dee Mullis of Savannah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and David Dobbs of St. Augustine, FL, Jacquelyn and Charles Masters of Tampa, FL; Judy and Charlie Binninger of St. Augustine; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Marvin Mullis of Valdosta, Dan and Emma Mullis of Tavares, FL; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Weeks and a brother, Merdith Mullis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Dorsett and Reverend Beth Bevill officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to New Harvest United Methodist Church, 2548 Lakeland Hwy., Valdosta, GA 31602 or to the American Cancer Society, P.
