Carl Marlin "Butch" Moore, Jr.

Carl Marlin "Butch" Moore, Jr., 63, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at his home in Valdosta. Born in Valdosta on February 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Carl Marlin Moore, Sr. and Marjorie Glennell Southall Moore. Mr. Moore was a 1970 graduate of Lowndes High School. He joined the Navy and served as a Corpsman before returning to Valdosta and attending Valdosta State University. Butch started a business sandblasting and painting in Valdosta and Tallahassee. He began researching and applying commercial coatings on boats and other applications. He went on to be a paint consultant and project estimator for Lowes Home Improvements. He loved boats, motorcycles, cars and racing. Butch was a very giving person. He served with Big Brothers, was a volunteer coach and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Survivors are his daughter, Carly Moore of Roanoke, Alabama; grandson, Zack Loftis of Roanoke, Alabama; mother and step father, Glennell and Gordon House of Valdosta; brother and sister in law, Kenny and Sherry Moore of Madison, Georgia; sister and brother in law, Gale and Brian Schall of Alexandria, Alabama; step brothers, Phil (Patsy) House of Ocala, Florida, Stan (Pam) House of Valdosta; step sisters, Vicki (Jeff) Orwig of Lilburn, Georgia, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Moore, Mrs. Lissie Hinton, Mr. Haynes Southall and an aunt, Viva Joiner.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Ross will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Halcyon Hospice.
