Camille Leonor Asbell

January 13, 1937 — February 3, 2011

Camille Leonor Asbell, 74, of Valdosta, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, after a prolonged illness.

Camille was born on January 13, 1937 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. From 1974 to 2006 she lived in Brunswick, GA, where she retired from the Glynn County Board of Education in 1995. She spent many years influencing the lives of many young adults at Jane Macon Middle School and Brunswick High School.

Mrs. Asbell was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she was a church lector for many years. In 2006 she moved to Valdosta, where she became an active member and greeter at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a dedicated volunteer of Birthright in Valdosta and was a proud member of the Third Order of Mary. She was the matriarch of her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren, she also enjoyed going to the beach, reading and listening to Johnny Mathis. Camille will be missed by her devoted family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Wayne Asbell of Valdosta, GA; three children, Rosie Tanner (Shawn) of Jacksonville, FL, Anthony Cuéllar (Daphne) of Valdosta, GA, and Kevin Asbell of Brunswick, GA; six grandchildren, Danielle Tanner, Stephen Tanner, Anna Rose Tanner, Daniel Tanner, Kevin Asbell, Jr., and Brianna Cuéllar; three sisters, twin Cecille Huerta of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Mary Valle of Miami, FL, and Maggie Williams of Ellenton, FL; and one brother, Manuel Holguin of Chile. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Marie Rosa Holguin; her father, John Hicks; and grandson, Stuart Tanner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 Gornto Rd., Valdosta, with Rev. Dan O'Connell officiating. Mrs. Asbell's family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta.
