Cameron K. Lawry, age 91, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at her home in Evans, GA.
Cam was born in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. to the late Francis Frederick Knight and Eleanor Allender Knight. The wife of an Army officer, the Lawry’s lived in Taiwan, Germany, and throughout the US before settling in Valdosta in 1969. Cam retired from the accounting department at Valdosta State University. No matter where Cam was living at the time, she always found joy and new friendships in playing Bridge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, LTC Walter A. Lawry, USA, Ret.; two children, Janis McGraw and Arthur Lawry; and great grandson, Jacob Miller.
She is survived by her two daughters, Camie Braendel (Doug) of Everett, Pennsylvania and Jennifer Newlin (Ken) of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter in-law Jane Lawry of Evans, GA; brother, Dick Knight (Norma) of Clearwater, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was adored as “Grandmom” to her eight grandchildren, Jennifer Miller of Dalton, GA, Eric Braendel (Patty) of Fredericksburg, VA, Heike Batluck (Joe) of Kandern, Germany, Kennerly Newlin (Shannon)Cincinnati, Ohio, Melissa Wiest (Tyler) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Chris Bittinger (Jennifer) of Augusta, GA, Allison Kumpik (John) of Franklin, NC and Sarah Lawry Steiner (Will) of Salt Lake City, UT. In addition she is survived by 18 great grandchildren (with another on the way); and five great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, December 1, 2019 in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
