C. Jerry Bennett, 67, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Valdosta on October 7, 1948 to the late Collis L. and Selma Clark Bennett, Jerry graduated from Valdosta High School in 1966 and from Wiregrass Technical College in 1968. He worked for the Marbut Company, H & S Supply, Valdosta Monument Company, Pipkin Motors and McLane Funeral Services as sales manager at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
Jerry loved his wife, children, grandchildren, God- son and all his family very much. He really enjoyed the many years he coached softball and baseball at the Boy's and Girl's Club. He loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Braves, the Falcons and collegiate football. Jerry especially liked watching his grandchildren and God -son play softball and baseball. His interests included politics, history and genealogy. He loved going to Daytona Beach as often as he could and eating crab legs at "Charlie Horses" restaurant. Jerry was a Christian with a deep personal relationship with God and his son, Jesus.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Ann Callahan Bennett of Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in- law, Jason (Heather) Bennett of St Augustine, Florida, Justin (Alisha) Bennett of Redmond, Oregon; daughter and son-in-law, Missy (Bobby) Bennett of Valdosta; grandchildren, Kaylee and Luke Bennett of St. Augustine, Florida, Brooks, Sutherlin, and Briggs Bennett of Valdosta, McKenna Christiansen of Redmond, Oregon; God-son, Daniel (Melinda) Fowler of Tifton; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters, Joe Ann (Robert) Jenkins of Valdosta, Joyce Berry of Lancaster, Ohio, June (Joe) Cooke of Valdosta; brothers, Johnny (Paula) Bennett and Jimmy (Billie) Bennett of Valdosta. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Jane Bennett; brothers-in-law, Jerry Callahan, Jim Berry and Don E. Ford; and by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Clifford Pittman.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2015 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Reverend Bob Willis officiating. A private entombment will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
