Byron Lincoln Vinson, 80, of Valdosta and formerly of Thomasville, died on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the home of his son in Demorest. Born in Dixie, Georgia, December 16, 1930, he was one of nine children raised on a farm by the late Paul L. and Addie Barden Vinson. He was a graduate of the Thomas County Schools in 1948. Mr. Vinson enlisted in the Military during the Korean Conflict and served honorably until discharged. During his military service he was the recipient of the following medals, the CIB, the Bronze Star, the UN Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal w/5 Bronze Service Stars. Mr. Vinson attended the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy from 1954-1955. He had worked as a Firefighter for the City of East Point and had retired from Food Lion. Mr. Vinson was very fond of gardening, fishing and he loved music.
Survivors are his wife, Dora Saliba Vinson of Valdosta; son, Edward K. Vinson of Demorest; daughter, Joyce L. Vinson of Conyers; stepdaughter, Teresa Brown of Valdosta; brothers, Vance Vinson of Boston, Gene Vinson of Pavo; sister, Ida Butler of Boston; grandson, Edward C. Vinson of Alto and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Committal services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 12 noon at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Reverend Gene Vinson will officiate. Carson McLane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
