Brunelle S. Thornton, 85, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 15, 1936, in Homerville, Georgia to the late Beacher Sr., and Edna Smith. Mrs. Thornton was a member of Swilley Hill Church of God where she had been involved with the Ladies Ministry and had worked for many years as secretary for Harry Thornton and Son Drywall. She loved cooking for her family and friends, gardening, especially her daylilies and amaryllis, and had been the owner/operator of Sisty’s Ceramic shop where she indulged in her passion of ceramic making.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harry and Tami Thornton of Valdosta, and Eddie Thornton of Naylor; a granddaughter and her husband, Amie and James Flowers of Hahira; four great-grandchildren, Emily-Grace Thornton and Beth-Anne Thornton both of Valdosta and Maddie Flowers and Jay Flowers both of Hahira; a sister, Syble Smith of Homerville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Reggie and Beverly Smith and Mark and Denise Smith all of Homerville; a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Scott Gard of Naylor; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Rudolph Albert Thornton; her grandson, Byron Thornton; a brother, Beacher Smith, Jr., and her step-mother, Sara Nell Smith.
Services for Brunelle S. Thornton will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Pruitt Hospice.
