Bro. George H. Stephens

Bro. George H. Stephens, 86, of Valdosta, died at his home on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Mr. Stephens was born in Madison, South Carolina on May 25, 1929. The son of a sharecropper he moved around with the family, graduating from high school in Wetumpka, Alabama. He joined the United States Navy and served for nine years. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Stephens studied electronics and began a 22 year career with the Civil Service. He retired in Valdosta and went on to pastor several churches including Pinetta First Baptist Church. He travelled to Haiti and was passionate in supporting Haitian ministry efforts.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Joyce Lee Stephens of Valdosta; sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Janet Stephens of Palatka, Florida, Paul and Jane Stephens of Valdosta; daughter, Tammy Stephens of Valdosta; grandchildren, Josh Roth of Decatur, TN, Amie Clonce of Atlanta, GA, Tanner Stephens of Palatka, Florida, Zach Bradford of Valdosta; great grandchild, Landon Cornell Roth of Decatur, TN; sister, Peggy Kilgore of East Dublin; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his parents, William Roland and Nettie Gertrude Whitehead Stephens, four sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Pinetta First Baptist Church. Reverend Murrell Bennett and Mr. Ron Stephens will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church Pinetta Haiti Mission Fund.
