Boyd Christie, 72, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at his home.
Born on June 7, 1938, in Statenville, Boyd was a son of the late Judson Claude Christie and Lula Mae Fletcher Christie. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and served for 20 years attaining the rank of E7 Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served twice in Vietnam. After his retirement from the U.S. Army, Boyd worked as maintenance lead man for SAFT retiring after 22 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, the American Legion 40 & 8 Post 13, and he was a Master Mason.
Survivors are his wife, Monika Weiser Christie of Valdosta; children, Jurgen (Tammy) Christie of Valdosta, Anita Christie (Tom) McMeans of Palm Springs, California, Annette Christie (Rick) Wahl of Palm Springs, Annelisa Christie (Gene) Nix of Valdosta; grandchildren, Jacob McMeans (Melissa) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joshua Boyd McMeans of Big Bear, California, Jennifer McMeans and Danielle Wahl of Palm Springs, California, Travis Christie, Tiffany Christie, Stuart Nix, Storm Nix and Shelby Nix all of Valdosta. Other survivors include brothers, Buster Christie of Valdosta, Ray Christie of Rex, Roger (Lynn) Christie of Hahira, Bill Christie of Atlanta; sisters, Faye (Charlie Bowser) Christie of Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Sue Ann Christie of Valdosta; his aunt, Jeanette Christie McCranie and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Roger Michael Christie.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 2 p.m in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Swilley Hill Cemetery. Dr. Gene Wisehart and Pastor Mickey Wisehart will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
