Bonnie Smith McGowan, 91, of Valdosta died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Arcadia, Florida on October 28, 1921 to the late A.L. and Artie Lenora Albritton Smith. Mrs. McGowan was a great prayer warrior, enjoyed reading her bible, and keeping informed about current events. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Mooma" and "Woo." During the 30 years she lived in Brandon, Florida, she enjoyed participating in water aerobics and the Silver Sneakers at the YMCA and was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. McGowan attended the Hahira United Methodist Church since moving to this area seven years ago to be near family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Eileen and Edward Reed of Floral City, FL, Marianne and Robert Soper of Hahira, her grandchildren, Will Soper and Kristy Williams of Marietta, Bonnie and Nathan Johnson of Valdosta, Zachary Soper of Hahira, Emily and Brian Johnson of Corpus Christi, TX, great grandson, Noah Johnson of Corpus Christi, TX, lifelong best friend, Marjorie Robinson of Jonesboro, GA, and special caregivers, Lisa Starling, Renee Wiseman, and Petrina Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William L. McGowan, Jr., three sisters, Grace Edwards, Marjorie Fagan, Dorothy Garner and three brothers, Herman Smith, Durward C. Smith and Rivers Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Hahira United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Morgan officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Gardens of Memories Cemetery in Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira.
