Bonnie L. "Nana" Hinely

August 23, 1923 — March 16, 2017

Bonnie L. "Nana" Hinely passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017, after a 5-year battle with dementia. She was born August 23, 1923 near Springfield, Missouri, to Otto and Lexie Lindsay. She grew up in a farming community and loved everything to do with the rural county side, including the animals, the smell of cut hay and beautiful flowers. She grew up singing gospel songs all over the Ozark mountains, with her Daddy singing bass, her brother singing tenor, her mother singing alto and she sang soprano. She worked in Washington DC during the war and married a soldier, J. Vernon Hinely, on August 27, 1947 after he returned from the Philippines. They moved to Orlando in 1947 and thought of Orlando as "this sleepy little town". They soon had 3 children and stayed very busy. He started several companies with his brother, and she discovered the Sweet Adelines, a women's singing group. Her quartet won the State Singing competition in the 60's and she directed the chorus for a few years. She soon joined the Juliliettes and sang with them for a few years. At one point, she was a member of the Central Florida Genealogical Society, The Wednesday Music Club, the National Association of Music Clubs, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, the DAR. She loved to sing and play the piano. She sang or played in dozens of weddings and funerals, and just for fun. She loved teaching the children's bible class at the South Bumby Church of Christ, where she and Vernon were members for over 65 years. Vernon and Bonnie loved to travel often, including many trips to Europe, especially with the Georgia Salzburger Society, where she helped discover so many interesting relatives and family history for the Hinely family, in Germany and Austria. But mostly she loved God. She loved worshipping God, reading God's word, praying to God, and specially singing about God with other Christians. For her, the most important thing in this life was to prepare for her eternal life with God.
She is survived by her 3 children, John, Darlene, and Herbert, who all live in the Orlando area. She has 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
