Bonnie Jean McBride Fay died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 30, 2022. Bonnie had celebrated her 101st birthday on September 11th, 2021. She was born in Elgin, Illinois to Wesley Ray McBride and Elfie Elizabeth Johnson McBride. She attended Elgin schools graduating from Elgin High in 1938 and went on to attend Elgin Academy. Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Lt. Robert J. Fay USN in 1943 during World War II. Following the War, Bob resigned his commission, and the couple moved to New York, Ohio, and returned to their hometown of Elgin, Illinois.
In 1981 Bonnie and Bob moved to the Landings on Skidaway Island where the couple enjoyed the retired life; playing golf and socializing with their friends. They were faithful members of Skidaway Island Community Church. Bonnie and Bob also participated in golf outings and tournaments traveling throughout the southeast.
Throughout her life Bonnie enjoyed cooking, working in wood, collecting useful antiques, refinishing furniture, painting in oils and needlework. She also had a special place in her heart for all animals. She participated in many social and charitable activities. She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club, Fideliters, Junior Service Board, Land Lovers ladies group, Eastern Seniors Golf Association, and Stone Creek Garden Club. First and foremost, Bonnie was a helpmate to her husband and nurturer to her only daughter, Anne.
Bonnie was a member of First Baptist Church, Valdosta, where she was a faithful member attending virtually.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Margaret E. Muntz and brother Wesley James McBride. She and her beloved husband Bob were married 63 years when he passed away in 2006. She is survived by her daughter Anne Stacey Cardella and husband, Craig David Cardella of Valdosta, grandson Matt Cardella and his wife Jessica and great grandsons Matthew, John, and Mark of Hinesville, GA and granddaughter, Carrie Jean Cardella Rentz and her husband, Dr. Jack Rentz and great grands Grace Anne and Sawyer of Morrison, Colorado. Her family was the light of her life, and she loved them dearly.
