Bond Carter Crosby, 29, originally from Valdosta, GA, died from complications from a heart attack and following surgery on July 24, 2014 in Atlanta. Born in Valdosta and attending Valdosta City Schools, he graduated from Valdosta High School in 2003. While in high school, Bond played baseball and served as a class officer having served as class president each year. He went on to attend Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. There he pledged Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated in 2008 with a BA in Political Science. Bond then moved to Augusta and sold AFLAC insurance products, but while there he began volunteering as a community coach for Columbia County Youth league sports coaching baseball, basketball and football. He soon moved to the Atlanta area and continued his career as a community coach, starting at Meadowcreek High School, participating in several sports. In Atlanta he supported himself working at The Ivy on the weekends. It wasn't long before Bond was offered a position as a full time substitute at Meadowcreek High and he continued to participate in coaching several teams and sports.The next year he accepted a full time teaching position along with his coaching duties. He received the Gwinnett Touchdown Club's Tally Johnson Award for the football assistant coach of the year in 2012. Also during this time Bond became one of the assistant baseball coaches and was then was offered and accepted the Head Baseball Coach position. Bond was described as a great friend, a smart, dedicated and charismatic individual, a true gentleman with a contagious smile. He loved life, loved his students and promoted "Title Town" and "ValVegas". He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Valdosta.
Survivors include his parents Lee & Becky Crosby of Valdosta; his brother and sister in law, Billy & Kym Crosby of Atlanta; his nephew, Neal Crosby of Atlanta and his girlfriend, Shantel Khleif of Atlanta; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral Mass in Atlanta will be held for Bond at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Dr., NW, Atlanta, GA on August 2, 2014 at 10 am. A reception will follow in the church hall. A Funeral Mass will be held in Valdosta at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A private graveside committal will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
