Bobby Watford, 78, of Valdosta died suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. He was born on August 12, 1933 in Lamar, South Carolina to the late Carlton and Cubie Swilley Watford and has been a resident of Valdosta for most of his life. Mr. Watford was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired farmer and a retired conductor for Norfolk Southern and he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Bobby had a huge heart and was there for family, friends and neighbors in times of need. He was a loving son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors and in the mountains with family and friends. He was greatly loved by his family and he will always be missed.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Karen Watford and Terry and Laura Watford all of Valdosta and Bobby and Cheryl Watford of Hahira; grandchildren, Christy Sale, Ron Watford, Shane Watford, Sharon Watford and Shelia Watford all of Valdosta and Caden Watford and Brooklyn Watford of Hahira; great-grandchildren, Zach Sale, McKenzie Sale, Brylie Sale and Paisley Watford all of Valdosta; a brother and sister-in-law, Dub and Doris Watford; two sisters, Betty Wood and Emmie Windham; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Inez and Lynn Wilhelm all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Watford and a brother, Pete Watford.
Services for Bobby Watford will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Hardee officiating. The burial will follow in the Swilley Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
