Bobby Walter Chaney, Sr., 78, of Quitman, formerly of Remerton, Georgia died on Friday, January 15, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Valdosta on March 28, 1937 to the late Henry and Effie Lee Carter Chaney and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He served in the Army National Guard with the 121st Infantry and obtained the rank of Sergeant. For over 30 years, Mr. Chaney was the owner/operator of the Scoop and Nut Shop Shell Station on Hwy 94 in Valdosta. Mr. Chaney was a former member of Mission Point and currently a member of Azalea City Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha Sue Chaney of Quitman; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gregg Moore, Sr. of Valdosta ; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Jr. and Laine Chaney of Lake Park ; a daughter, Ginger Chaney Moore of Cleveland, Tennessee; grandchildren and their spouses, Alicia and Thomas Yunker, Gregg Jr. and Ashlie Moore, Nicole and Daniel McCauley and Megan Brooke Chaney; great-grandchildren, Braylynn, Kaydence, Cottyn, Braxton and Gracie Moore, EmaLeigh Yunker, Hayden and Addison Connell; a sister-in-law, Linda Bass. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chaney was also preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Annie and Lawson Anderson.
Services for Bobby Walter Chaney, Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
