Bobby Hodge

September 9, 1938 — May 1, 2011

Bobby Hodge, 72, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Langdale Hospice House after a long battle with cancer. Born in Quitman, Georgia, on September 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Gary Paul and Lois Berry Hodge. Bobby was raised in Valdosta where he attended Valdosta High School in the mid 1950's and played football with the Valdosta Wildcats. A graduate of Gordon Military School in Barnesville, he served briefly with the Georgia National Guard and worked at Roger Budd Chevrolet for many years before joining his wife at Ortlieb Moving and Storage Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Bobby was a family man who loved spending time with his family. He was a people person and never met a stranger.

Survivors are his wife of 36 years, Gretchen Hodge; sons, Kevin Shaw of Valdosta, Allen Shaw of Atlanta; daughter, Katrina Steward and husband Randy of Griffin; grandson, Shane Steward of Griffin; brother-in-law, Harold Cohen of Valdosta; niece, Cindy Siegler and husband, Danny of Atlanta and their children, Ben and Blair; nephews, Billy Hodge of Lake Park, Keith Hodge of Valdosta, and niece, Kathy Fondren of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary H. Cohen and a brother, Paul Hodge.

Reverend Bob Moon and Reverend Calvin Davis will officiate at funeral services on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 2:00 pm. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 – 8 p.m Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Pearlman Cancer Center.
