Bobby (Bob) Rickman, 77, of Hahira, died on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Heritage House Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was born on April 13, 1937 in Bishop, Virginia to the late Everett and Mae Harmon Rickman. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Rickman served as an auxillary policeman with the Valdosta Police Department in years past and was a mechanic with Pipkin Motors for many years before declining health forced his retirement. Anyone who knew Bob knew of his wide range of interests, hobbies, and being the consummate Jack of all Trades. He invested time in model train sets, collecting baseball cards, working and restoring old cars, fishing, working as a flagman for Thunderbowl Speedway, playing Nintendo games, and dancing the night away at the VFW. He was also known for the best Christmas lights spectacular in his neighborhood that involved many months of preparation, but more importantly, many hours of joy and pleasure for all who came to see them. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Rickman of Hahira; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Karen Rickman of Stockton, Georgia; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rhonda Rodgers of Lakeland, Georgia, Tammy and Rex Browning of Hahira, and Holly and Tim Radney of Valdosta; grandchildren, Mandy Browning of Lakeland, Georgia, Daniel Rickman of Valdosta, Keri and Brian Banks of Valdosta, Jessie Browning of Hahira, Ashley Browning also of Hahira, Lindsay Browning of Valdosta, Haley Radney of Columbus, Georgia, Kari Radney of Valdosta, Eli Radney of Valdosta, Dylan Rodgers of Lakeland, Georgia and R.J. Murphy of Jennings, Florida; great-grandchildren, Brianna Browning, Ansley Corrao, Jackson Smith, Hudson Sinnott, Tucker Browning, Tayten Murray; a brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Mellie Rickman of West Virginia; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and J.B. Wyatt of Asheville, North Carolina; a brother and sister-in-law, E.L. and Edna Rickman of West Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rickman was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Rickman.
Services for Bobby (Bob) Rickman will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Leonard Harnage officiating. The burial will follow in the Stockton Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home.
