Bobbie Townsend Mullis, 92, of Lake Park, passed away November 19, 2018. Bobbie was born in Orlando, Florida, on September 8, 1926 to the late Robert Stafford and Ella Dixon Townsend. Her family moved to Darien, Georgia when she was a young child. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend owned and operated the Altamaha Inn in Darien, where she and her sisters assisted in the everyday chores of running the Inn. Bobbie later attended Georgia State Women’s College now known as Valdosta State University. While attending school in Valdosta, she met and later married the late Franklin Stuart Mullis Jr. Ms. Mullis went on to become a successful business women, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ms. Mullis was proceeded in death by her son Franklin Stuart Mullis, III, and her sisters, Doris Townsend Rabb of Darien, Georgia, Dorothy Townsend Bailey of Waycross, Georgia, and Mary Lou Townsend Speed of Sebastian, Florida.
She is survived by her children, Perry Alan Mullis of Lake Park, Georgia, Marcus Stafford Mullis of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Barbara Constance Mullis Sayer of Valdosta, Georgia, and her daughter in law Claudia Collins Mullis, of Valdosta, Georgia. Her grandchildren, Jennifer Johnston Steedley {Randy}, of Valdosta, Georgia, Ellen Frances Mullis Welch {Dan} of Asheville, North Carolina, Marcus Alan Mullis {Geri Lynn} of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Katherine Mullis Bulmer {Bryan} of Ringgold, Georgia, Robert Gregory Mullis {Leanne} of Smyrna, Georgia, and Colby Jean-Anne Sayer of Valdosta, Georgia. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Sage Steedley, Reese Steedley and Jack Steedley all of Valdosta, Georgia, Hannah Bulmer and Ava Bulmer of Ringgold, Georgia, Graham Mullis and Lana Mullis of Smyrna, Georgia, and Maggie Lou Mullis of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Her sister Lorene Townsend Howard of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and her lifelong friend Ann Moore Dukes of Valdosta, Georgia.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Valdosta-Lowndes County Habitat for Humanity or Valdosta City Schools Foundations, Inc. The family will receive guests following the memorial service at the home of Randy and Jennifer Steedley.
