Bobbie Marcelle Abel Harvey, 96, died on 1 April 2023 at Lakehaven Nursing Home in Valdosta, GA after a lengthy struggle with Lewy body dementia. She was born in a log cabin in Hixson, TN on 1 June 1926 to Robert Franklin Abel and Nancy Mae Hixson. In 1928, her family moved to Rockwood, TN where she spent most of her childhood and adolescence. She graduated in 1945 from Rockwood High School. Shortly after graduation, she went to work at Oakridge National Laboratory as a Calutron Girl as part of the Manhattan Project.
On 5 January 1952, she married Frederick Eston Harvey. Upon their marriage, they moved to Knoxville, TN. In 1961, the family moved to Birmingham, AL and then moved to Valdosta, GA in 1966. She remained married to Fred until his death in 2006.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Ada Bell Boles, Howard William Ables, Allen Timothy “Boots” Abels, Marvin “Tank” Ables, Kenneth Ray Abels, Carl Junior Abel, Betty Lou Abel, and Margaret Lee Thompson; her great-granddaughters, Brandy Leigh Clark and Abigayl Grace Gay; and every one of her ninety-six first cousins.
She is survived by her children: Iris Leigh Weaver, Sharon Kinsey, Sean (Latrelle) Harvey, and Anna Harvey; her grandchildren: Monique Kitchen, Melissa (Billy) Jones, Dr. Marcie (Randy) Gay, Angela Brady, and Phillip Williams; her great-grandchildren: David (Nichollette) Clark, Autumn (Blake) Bryant, Shelby Kitchen, Nathan Jones, Alexis (Brandon) Orne, Christian Jones, Carter Brady, and Hunter Watson; her great-great-grandchildren: Luka Clark, Beckham Clark, and Opal Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed reading, genealogy, cooking for her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and spending time with her animal companions.
There will be a private graveside service for the family at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, GA on 5 April 2023 at 11:00 am. There will not be a viewing. Carson McLane Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
