Bobbie Jack Brooks

September 2, 1927 — March 29, 2014

Bobbie Jack Brooks (RET. MSGT), 86, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Langdale Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was born on September 2, 1927 in Clarkesville, Georgia to the late Jurd McAfee and Mamie Crow Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force and served his country in the European Theater during WWII. In 1959, Mr. Brooks moved to Valdosta and in 1966 started and became the owner/operator of Brooks Welding Company until his retirement in 1992 when his son, Jerry, took over the family business. He was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church and was active in and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the June Norwood Coffee Club. He was a loving husband and father and never met a stranger. He loved his church and was always doing for others. He loved to be outdoors with his dog, Bo-Mar, and study nature.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Rigdon Brooks of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jan Brooks of Naylor; two step-children, James Stephens of Lakeland, Georgia and Wayne Stephens and his wife Andrea of Budapest, Hungary; 10 step-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Mona Brooks of Clarkesville, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Marie Brooks; 3 brothers, Bill, Emory and Grady Brooks; 4 sisters, Mary Lou Grosse, Daisy Powell, Jeanette Lavinge, Betty Seale, and a step-daughter, Margaret Hasty. The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Hobby and all the nurses and staff at the Langdale Hospice House for all the love and care they provided to Bobbie and the family.

Services for Bobbie Jack Brooks will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. V.L. Daughtry, Rev. David Tart, and Rev. Hale Bishop officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
