BOBBIE BURNETTE, 82, of Valdosta died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the Lakehaven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 23, 1924 in Atchison, Kansas to the late George Heubert and Hazel Wolfe Burnette and had lived in Valdosta for nineteen years. Mr. Burnette was a self employed landscaper and a member of the United Pentecostal Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Hornet and was authorized as “shellback” for crossing the equator on 21 August 1942 while serving in Torpedo Squadron Six. He loved his country very much and was active in the DAV and active with the U. S. Senate in getting bills passed.
Survivors include his wife, Lavern Burnette of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Gary Burnette and Okyon Young of Valdosta, two daughters and a son in law, Suzanne and Steven Pagola of Valdosta, Faye Dixon of Vero Beach, Fla., son and daughter in law, Huey and Missy Burnette of Oklahoma, 10-grandchildren, 15-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Burnette.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm, Sunday, October 22, 2006 at the United Pentecostal Church with Pastor William Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
