August 27, 1908 — November 30, 2008

Blanche Prescott Lanier, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, teacher, gardener, church woman, artist and a friend to many, died on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Langdale Hospice House. She was 100 years old and was born on August 27, 1908, the oldest daughter of the late Jesse Plez and Imo Prescott of Lake Park. Mrs. Lanier was a lifelong resident of Lake Park. She attended Mercer University in Macon and graduated from Valdosta State Women's College (now VSU).

A retired school teacher, she taught grades 1-8 for 33 years. The grades she loved best were 2nd and 3rd. Mrs. Lanier adored children. She was an avid gardener, growing flowers was her passion. Her sweet, loving spirit was known to all. She truly loved her family and her church where she taught Sunday school and was very active in the UMW (Women's group) of Lake Park Methodist Church for many years. She was a lifelong member and remained very active until health issues and age required her to stay home. She loved serving her beloved Lake Park in many capacities and she was a member of the Lake Park Historical Society.

Her active life was marked by her love for her family, the town of Lake Park and devotion to her church. She loved ceramics and continued with ceramic classes at the age of 99 years old. She was very talented in oil painting as well.

Survivors include her daughter, Rachael Lanier Wilson of Lake Park; two grandchildren, Laura Lynn Powell of Lake Park, Stan Powell and his wife, Crystal; and two great grand children, Gabriella and Garren Powell, all of Valdosta; a sister-in-law, Mazie Lanier of Lake Park; two special nieces, Jan Ausburn of Cornelia, Faye Lansdell of Franklin, NC; and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, J.A. Lanier, Jr.; a sister, Jessie Mae Lanier, and a nephew, Jerry Lanier.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Hospice of South Georgia, and Langdale Hospice House for the tender, loving and compassionate care. They'd also like to thank Tommie Lee Stallings of Lake Park for the loving care she has given to the Prescott-Lanier families for many, many years.
