Bion Lamar Williams died peacefully on February 27, 2025 from Acute Myeloma Leukemia. He was born on December 24, 1949, to the late Jack Lamar Williams and Beverly Dougherty Williams. He graduated from Valdosta High School, and he graduated cum laude with a BA in History from Valdosta State University. He also received his master's degree in history from VSU. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Valdosta where he had served as an elder and usher.
Bion was a retired pharmaceutical sales representative. During his career, he had been employed by US Pharmaceutical, Eli Lily, and Publicis- representing Schering Plough and Merck. He won several district, regional, and national awards for his sales. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Georgia Drug Card, and he conducted sample audits for Knipper X, NJ.
Bion had a variety of interests that he was passionate about. He adored being with his family-especially going on trips with them, taking them to football games, going to the Braves Spring Training games, coaching his daughters in rec league softball, teaching them to surf, golf, fish, etc. He enjoyed playing golf until his health declined, and he was fortunate enough to have attended the Master's four times. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs; his favorite game that he attended was the 1980 GA-FL game.
He also liked the Green Bay Packers, and he was able to see a game at Lambeau Field. He liked attending the VSU Women's softball games and going out to lunch with his friend David Steinberg. He loved hunting turkey, geese, ducks, deer, dove (he was a member of Grey Ghost Dove Hunting club in north FL for over 30 years), and pheasant. He enjoyed deer hunting, shooting guns, and burning woods with Ronnie Johnston. He loved freshwater fishing; he fished with John Harrington for over 45 years. He also loved the challenge of sport fishing. His largest catch was a 120 lb tarpon that he caught off Marathon, Florida Keys in June 1992. He loved trying new barbeque restaurants during his travels, and his favorites were in Texas. He also enjoyed eating at various local restaurants when working his sales territory that included south and middle GA, southeastern Al, and northwest Florida. His wife enjoyed riding with him following her retirement. He listened to all types of music and watched classic movies. He also enjoyed growing tomatoes, making Brunswick Stew every Christmas, and smoking chicken.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Jennifer (Jenny) Johnston Williams. He also leaves his three daughters and a son- in law Corey and Whitney Elizabeth Jones of Tallahassee, FL, Jane Warrick Williams of Valdosta, and Meredith Anne Williams of Atlanta. He leaves one sister, Beverly (Cissy) Burnette of Green Cove Springs, FL. His two brothers and sister-in-law David and Kathryn Williams of Valdosta, and Roddey Williams of Alachua, FL. He also leaves his sister-in-law Deborah (Debbie) Johnston Langdale of Lake Park. He leaves four nephews: Gary Luke, Green Cove Springs, David and Tiffany Luke, Cumming, GA, Jack and Gini Langdale of Valdosta, Matt and Susannah Langdale of Valdosta, three nieces Erica and John Braley of High Springs FL, Melissa and Jeno Strandhagen of Jacksonville, FL, Katie and Jordan Taylor of Gainesville, FL. He was preceded in death by his in- laws HD (Country) and Edith Johnston, his brother-in-law Jim Johnston, and his niece Stephane Taylor Williams. He also leaves behind many wonderful great nieces, great nephews, a great-great nephew, cousins, and friends. He was especially close with his wife's Johnston cousins-Greg (Rose) of Houston, TX, Jo Lynne (John) of Sarasota, FL, Sandra (Tom) of Austin, TX, and Ronnie (Nicole) of Dasher, GA.
Funeral services for Bion will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 8, 2025 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
