Billy Ross Rountree, 85, of Hahira died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 26, 1934 in Hahira to the late George A. and Ethel Guess Rountree and was a lifelong resident of Hahira. Mr. Rountree was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where he had served on the Board of Trustees. He worked for the Scruggs Company from 1956 to 1985 and in 1985 started Rountree Construction Company. Mr. Rountree served on the Lowndes County Board of Education for many years and served for fifteen years on the Hospital Authority Board of South Georgia Medical Center. He was active in the Lowndes Viking Touchdown Club and enjoyed his many trips to the Suwannee and the Bojangles Breakfast Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ina Harrell Rountree, of Hahira; sons and daughters in law, Danny and Denise Rountree, Stacy and Vicki Rountree, Jim and Melissa Killgore all of Hahira; daughter and son in law, Kim and Chance Black of Richmond Hill; his grandchildren, Zac and Marla Rountree, Katelyn Rountree, Eli and Alina Rountree, Seth Rountree, Jud Killgore, Samuel Black, Zach and Kayla O’Brien, Adrien O’Brien, Mackensie Killgore, Jordan Black; great grandchildren, Suzanna Rountree, Silas Rountree, Avery Rountree, Wilder Long, Bennett Locher; sister and brother in law, Brenda and Robert Coombs of Hahira; several nieces and nephews; mother in law, Marthena Harrell of Valdosta; sister in law and brother in law, Iris and Johnny McDaniel of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother in law, Betty Jean and Russell Simpson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the Martin McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Howard and Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriners.
