Billy David Culpepper, Sr., 88, of Echols County died Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on February 10, 1933 in Echols County, he was a son of the late Charlie Culpepper and the late Wilma Padgett. Mr. Culpepper was an active member and worker of Bethel Church of God and retired after forty-three years at Owens Illinois Paper Mill Division. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at Lake Okeechobee, Florida. He served on the Board of Directors with the Slash Pine Corporation and Board of the Church of God with the Tifton office. In his spare time, he farmed where he reared hogs and cows.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Culpepper of Echols County, his children, David Culpepper of Hamilton County, FL, Donald Culpepper of Echols County, Allison and Shiloh Craven of Jacksonville, FL; 5-grandchildren, 2-great grandchildren; one sister, Lorene Carter of Echols County, his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Joan Culpepper of Echols County; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Combass of Dowling Park, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; a special caregiver, Tami Platt of Echols County. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. J. Frank Culpepper, four sisters, Lois Corbett, Jean Finck, Alene Prokop and Doris Barfield, a brother-in-law, J. L. Combass, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ernestine and J. W. Foster.
Graveside services will be held at 3pm, Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Carter Cemetery with Rev. Daryl Pate officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-7pm at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
