William Julian Pearlman, 87, of Valdosta died Friday, December 26, 2008 at his home. Born May 4, 1921 to the late Abraham and Ida Pearlman, he was a lifetime resident of Valdosta. After graduating from Valdosta High School as valedictorian, he attended The Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Pearlman returned to Valdosta to work alongside his mother and brother, Sidney, at South Georgia Pecan Company. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corp as a mechanic. Mr. Pearlman was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and had a great fondness for the city of Valdosta. An active community member, Mr. Pearlman served as a board member at Temple Israel, Valwood School, and the Valdosta Country Club. In 1995, Mr. Pearlman and his brother worked to establish the Pearlman Comprehensive Cancer Center at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margot Pearlman of Valdosta, son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Wendy Pearlman of Atlanta, son and daughter-in-law Scott and Jan Pearlman of Atlanta, grandchildren Gregory and Laura Soshnik of Atlanta, Bradley and Sarah Soshnik of Valdosta, Allison and Jason Molinari of Atlanta, Jennifer Pearlman of Atlanta, and two great-grandchildren, Allan and Benjamin Soshnik. He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Allan Soshnik, brother, Sidney Pearlman, and sister Beatrice Yarus.
A graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rabbi Moshe Elbaz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Temple Israel, 511 Baytree Rd, Valdosta, GA 31602, the Pearlman Comprehensive Cancer Center, or Bethany Hospice.
