Bettye Bolton, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born October 3, 1922 in Tifton, a daughter of the late Paul Caleb and Barbara Gertrude Smith. After graduating from Decatur Girls' High she returned to Tifton. During World War II she was employed as a Clerk with the Defense Department in Warner Robins. She married Wendell H. Bolton and the couple made their home in Valdosta, where she began her career and retired from Georgia Power.
Mrs. Bolton was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and her Sunday school class. She greatly loved, cared and provided for her family, especially her grandchildren. Bettye enjoyed playing Bridge, was an avid sports enthusiast, and was a loyal Valdosta Wildcats fan.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Kay Bolton of Valdosta; one grandson, Andy and wife Kim Bolton of Valdosta; one granddaughter, Ansley and husband John Edenfield of Tifton; her special family, Diane and Keith Stewart of Valdosta; four great-grandchildren, Kinslee and Kaitlyn Bolton, Ashton Bolton and Elizabeth Edenfield; and many special friends. She was predeceased by her husband on April 28, 1995.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Bolton will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011, at the Chapel of Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
