Betty Tomlinson Powell

Betty Tomlinson Powell, 88, of Valdosta died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Langdale Hospice House after a short illness. She was born in Valdosta, Georgia on November 18, 1928, to the late Hobson K. and Louise Courson Tomlinson. Mrs. Powell loved the Lord and was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a homemaker and caregiver her entire life and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Payton Powell.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses; Judy and Larry Wilkinson, Gayle and Johnny Johnson, Dale and Lavonne Powell all of Valdosta, Nancy and Ned Simmons of Barwick; eleven grandchildren, Chuck Wilkinson, Jennifer (Matt) Thomas, Jason(Andrea) Wilkinson, Debbie (Kevin) Herring, John (Rachel) Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Stephanie Powell, Julie (Chad) Rischar, Justin (Christy) Powell, Heather Simmons, Lexi Simmons (fiance' Austin Masters); thirteen great grandchildren, Garrett and Caitlin Herring, Faith Johnson, Solomon, Kinnan and Emory Rischar, Parker and Charter Thomas, Bowen, Brooks and Reed Wilkinson, Abbigail and Addison Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Blackmon and Alma Worth and one brother, Kenneth Tomlinson.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10am until service time at the funeral home. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
