Betty Sue Grant Martin, 82, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Holly Hill Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 16, 1924 in Lowndes County to the late Wiley Cleveland and Eunice Clyde Davis Grant. Mrs. Martin was a retired homemaker and a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and the Christian Homebuilder’s Sunday School Class. She was involved in a nursing home ministry, a bridge club and delivered daily bread devotional’s.
Mrs. Martin is survived by one daughter, Brenda Freeman of Valdosta, two sons, Rick Martin III of Atlanta and Joe Martin of Valdosta, six grandchildren, Laura Lynn Mullis and her husband, Mike, Emmitt Nolan, Jr., Sunelle Johnson and her husband, Kris, Eric Martin, Joe Martin, Jr. and Jim Martin, great grandson, Matthew Mullis, great granddaughters, Madison Johnson and Kaley Johnson, four sisters in law, Verne Griffin and Sue Boyette of Hahira, Clois Martin of Lake Park, Millie Grant of Arlington, VA., two brothers in law, Frank Crane and Norman C. Nichols, Sr. of Valdosta. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Richard “Dick” Martin, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2007 at four p. m. at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church with Revered Craig Rikard, Reverend V. L. Daughtery, and Emmitt Nolan, Jr. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Martin will lie in state in the church one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Park Avenue United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Friday at the funeral home.
