Betty Owens Pye, 79, of Valdosta, died at her residence on Wednesday, December 09, 2009 following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 31, 1930 in Savannah, Georgia to the late William Benjamin and Lois Williams Owens. She was a founding member of Wesley United Methodist Church of St. Simon's Island and was involved with the United Methodist Women. She volunteered her time for the Cancer Society and as a polling precinct worker and was a member of the Garden Club of Atlanta.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Gregory Pye and his partner, Grant W. Brown of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Nancy Pye of Madison, Georgia; four grandchildren, Rustin Pye of Tallahassee, Bradley and Shanna Pye of Valdosta, Ryan Pye of Statesboro, and Brandon Pye of Atlanta; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Pye of Valdosta; a special friend and caregiver, Eleanor Fennell of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Earnest Pye; a grandson, Beau Pye and a sister, Carol Cox.

A memorial service for Betty Owens Pye will take place at a later date at St. Simons, Georgia with a burial to take place at the Christ Episcopal Cemetery in St. Simons.
