Betty Mae Shultz Zipperer

April 27, 1920 — October 4, 2014

Betty Mae Shultz Zipperer, 94, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, October 04, 2014, at Lakehaven Nursing Home. Born in Lawrence, Kansas on April 27, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Darlene Woolsey Shultz and Guy Edward Shultz. Betty moved to California in 1943. She lived in Los Angeles for a few months and then went on to San Diego where she worked for a shipyard company. Betty had the honor of christening a tug boat and thought that bottle of champagne would never break! She met her husband, Paul in San Diego and began a 54 year journey as a Navy wife. Betty traveled with Paul around the world to as many assignments as the Navy would allow. She worked as a secretary at many of the Naval Stations where they lived. After Paul's retirement from the Navy in 1970, the Zipperer's moved to Valdosta to be near his family. They built a home which they shared for 26 years until Paul's passing in 1998.
Betty was an avid bowler and won many tournaments throughout the years. She enjoyed playing Bridge and taught her nieces and nephew the fine art of Scrabble. She loved to bake and her cakes, especially her wedding cakes were beautiful and in great demand. Betty also enjoying crocheting and sharing what she made as gifts to those she loved.
Survivors are her sister, Virginia Anderson and her beloved nieces, Michele Ann (Weldon L.) Fate of Overland Park, Kansas, Patti (Gil) Weaver of Redmond, Washington, Jennie (Daniel) Washburn of Lawrence, Kansas, Donna Lee (Eddie) Young of Monroe, Washington, and nephew, Guy (Tracey) Shultz of Escondido, California, and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by a very special "Niece" Janet Cothron who helped care for Betty for over thirty years. Numerous nieces and nephews of the Horace Zipperer family also survive. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Reynolds Shultz.
